Job Description
Provide leadership in the design and implementation of programs for adults, youth and children to assist in building a solid foundation for the Catholic Faith within the Diocese of Steubenville. This position provides comprehensive, well-organized and theologically sound catechist formation for the Christian faithful who serve in the Diocese's parishes and schools.Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
• Collaborates with Franciscan University for the implementation and use of the Catechetical Institute throughout the diocese.
• Review and update the content/curriculum in the certification tracks.
• Facilitate virtual workshops for catechesis and Catholic School teachers
• Maintain records for catechist certification and on-going catechist formation for catechist/ Catholic schools.
• Plan and coordinate workshops for catechetical leaders and all catechetical formation.
• Coordinate and plan Diocesan youth events.
• Provide direction for youth ministry resources (print, video, web and diocesan) to pastors and parishes.
• Provide appropriate training for the adults and youth participating in leadership positions.
• Work with the Director of Christian Formation and Schools to determine age-appropriate curriculum and participate in the planning and implementation of various ministries.
• Serves as a communication link between the Diocese, catechesis, schools, and parishes.
• Assists other staff members of the OCFS with events and outreaches.
• Provides catechetical consultation to other members of the staff.
• Maintain and build consistent and positive communications with pastors, DRE's, catechists, and youth ministers to keep them informed of ministry development and ongoing support.
• Implement and coordinate retreats, networking, workshops, and other opportunities to gather as professionals in ministry.
• Articulates the diocesan vision of catechesis based on Church documents such as, Directory for Catechesis (2020) and the National Directory for Catechesis.
• Maintain records for catechist certification and on-going catechist formation for catechist/ Catholic schools.
• Moderate, coordinate and plan annual Diocesan the Diocesan Tournament of Truth Program.
• Maintain guidelines and offer support to parishes and Catholic schools.
• Provide content pertinent to the Office of Christian Formation and Schools to the web master for publishing.
• Facilitates and recommends resources for personal Faith growth among catechists.
• Undertake an ongoing evaluation process in light of goals and objectives based on the OCFS mission statement.
• Assist with Scouts of America chapters on Catholic information, medals and badges.
• Participates on committees and special projects as needed.
Skills and Competencies:
• Ability to make formal presentations.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and works well with a variety of personalities.
• Knowledge of Catholic Church structure and culture.
• Strong verbal and written communications skills.
• Ability to develop and facilitate religious education programs and workshops.
• Ability to read and understand Church documents and guidelines.
• Articulation of the philosophy and theology of the Diocesan catechetical programs.
Education and Experience:
• Bachelor's in Theology, Catechetics, or related field. Master's degree preferred.
• Experience working with Faith formation programs.
Requirements:
• Must understand, support and embrace the mission of The Diocese of Steubenville.
• Must be a practicing Catholic and currently in good standing and participating in a parish.
• Willingness to travel throughout the 13-county area.
• May require occasional evening and weekend hours.
Work Place Factors:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, communicate, reach and manipulate objects, tools or controls. The position requires mobility. Minimum physical exertion. Duties involve moving materials weighing up to 5 pounds on a regular basis and may infrequently require moving materials weighing up to 25 pounds. Manual dexterity and coordination are required less than 50% of the work period while operating equipment such as computer keyboard, calculator, and standard office equipment. Duties also include set up and tear down of events. Usual office working conditions. The noise level in the work area is typical of most office environments.

FLSA Status: Full-time (Exempt)
Hours: 9:00 am - 4:00 pm some evenings & weekends
