Job Description

Job Description
Homeschool Connections, the premier Catholic online curriculum provider for middle and high school students with over 700 recorded online courses and 200+ LIVE courses online per year, has two (2) openings for LIVE course Middle School Writing Teachers (6/7 and 7/8 students) for the Aquinas Writing Advantage program. The positions are contract, fully remote, and part-time, with courses to begin Fall 2025.

If you're passionate about students getting excited about and mastering writing, then keep reading. Using an already-designed program and set content for the courses, the Online Instructor teaches an hour class LIVE each week for one (1) to three (3) sections of courses at a time, September through April (20 students per course); communicates with parents and students at least six times per semester; answers student emails and questions in a timely way; and grades student work within seven (7) days of the submission deadline. The teacher also attends a once-a-month writing teacher meeting and has touch-base meetings with the Writing Program Director. You're an independent contractor expert who's provided with exactly what you need to connect with students. There's nothing like this online.

This contracted remote position is for an individual who can be independently in charge of his/her courses yet maintain clear communication (and follow directions) in coordination with the Director. The ideal candidate wants to work part-time in what they love, is faithful to the Catholic Church, is highly skilled in the teaching of academic writing for middle school students, works well with a team of writing teachers, and is able to commit to staying in the position for at least two years. Most teachers for AWA also have a strong background in personal teaching and writing (books published, professional editing, etc.) and are familiar with homeschooling/online schooling at home.

Applicant Requirements/Qualifications

Applicant must have the following:
• A minimum of four (4) years of middle school writing instruction experience; 5+ years preferred; high school teachers may apply
• The minimum of a bachelor's degree in English/writing from an accredited university, masters degree preferred
• A joyful, positive online demeanor that students connect with and experience guiding and leading both skilled and struggling students online
* Impeccable, detailed academic writing and editing abilities
• Experience working remotely with online teaching and LMS (required)
• High organization skills
• Exceptional communication skills, written and verbal
• Able to work independently, managing resources and documentation
• Tact and skill in working with parents of middle school students
• The ability to integrate the tenets of the Catholic faith into all work relationships and performance

Job Responsibilities include the following:
• For each course section, teach one (1) LIVE course per week: 15 minutes in the classroom beforehand with the Course Monitor (second adult) and the hour teaching
* Give timely, friendly, respectful responses to parents and students, including excellent follow-up in primary and secondary contact, answering student and parent emails within 24 hours, M-F, and communicating with parents via email before, during (midterm), and after (finals) each course
• Practice clear, regular communication with the Director of the Aquinas Writing Advantage program and the Managing Director (set times and as needed)
• Give excellent feedback on all writing assignments (both overall comments and specific, in-line feedback) that meets and exceeds student/parent expectations

Application Instructions:
In an email, send three attachments:
1) a resume,
2) three professional references (complete contact information, including email and phone number), and
3) a letter of introduction stating why you're the best candidate for the position(s).

Send all of the above to the Senior Director of the Aquinas Writing Advantage Program, Erin M. Brown, MA, MFA, at ebconroy@homeschoolconnections.com with the subject line, "Middle School Writing Teacher Application." Copy Managing Director Aubrey Heki at aheki@homeschoolconnections.com.
