Job Description

Job Title: Cemetery Landscaper and Caretaker
Reports to: Chief of Staff
Expected Start Date: as soon as possible
Role Purpose:

We are seeking a hardworking, dependable and committed person to care for our cemetery grounds and mausoleum. This candidate will be responsible for presenting the parish cemetery and mausoleum in a professional and hospitable manner. The candidate will take initiative in caring for and maintaining our property and supporting and respecting our departed and their families.

Attention to detail and inventory is a must. Prepare plans for seasonal projects and work proactively as to the needs of the cemetery and mausoleum. Flexibility to attend to urgent calls is a must. The role requires a wide range of repair and maintenance skills.

Job Description:

Tasks include landscaping, mowing, trimming, pruning shrubs, laying foundations and finishing cement, and use of equipment, such as backhoe, power lawn mower, mausoleum lift and casket lowering device.

Perform repairs on equipment, using hand tools and power tools and applying mechanical knowledge.
Coordinate other tasks and activities on the property including, but not limited to excavation of ground for preset vaults, movement of equipment, all repairs on property including mechanical and other items such as fence and road repair and patching.

Prepare for and perform snow removal.

Engage in opening and closing mausoleum vaults.

Determine equipment life, repairs and requirements for each area of maintenance of the grounds.

Locate boundaries, oversee the burial process and coordinate the installation of markers.

Enforce cemetery policies.

Work to comply with audits and updates from the Cemeteries Office of the Archdiocese.

Assume the duties of a disaster worker in the event of a locally declared emergency.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Some items to be considered for the position:
High School diploma required
Additional certifications a plus
2-5 years cemetery experience
Must pass a criminal background check
Must receive a Protecting God's Children certificate
