ANCHOR, EWTN NEWS NIGHTLYLocation: Washington, DC (not remote-eligible)
HOW YOU WILL IMPACT THE BIG PICTURE:
The EWTN News Nightly Anchor works with the Executive Producer alongside the News Nightly editorial and production team to deliver a high-quality daily newscast and occasional special events coverage from a Catholic perspective.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
• Serve as a faithful and informed face of the global Catholic network's news service, accurately representing Catholic Church Teaching and the Church's positions on issues of public policy.
• Review and help write newscasts, including VOs, VOSOTs, and packages.
• Thoroughly prepare for discussion segments with experts and pundits on current events, Catholic issues and the intersection of the Catholic Teaching and public policy.
• Provide story ideas at daily editorial meetings.
• Collaborate with the team on the daily news cast, special segments, coverage of special events like March for Life, and holiday shows.
• Collaborate with the Digital/Social Media team to tease and promote shows and segments.
• Stay up to date on secular current events as well as changes in Church hierarchy and news from the Vatican.
• Establish and maintain contacts and relationships within the Catholic community and beyond. This may include public appearances at relevant events.
ABOUT YOU:
• You have a minimum of 5 years of broadcasting news experience, including previous anchoring experience of live and pre-taped news shows.
• Possess a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field.
• Strong journalistic skills and ability to follow standard journalistic practices, particularly accuracy, honesty and integrity; demonstrate excellent news judgment.
• Practicing Catholic with demonstrated understanding of the Catholic faith, commitment to EWTN's mission, and the ability to apply both to stories being covered.
• Strong on-air presentation; must be credible, personable, and passionate and demonstrate exemplary composure under pressure.
• Proven ability to perform well under pressure, adapt quickly to change, and meet tight deadlines.
• Flexibility on work schedule (some nights and weekends may be required) with the ability to travel as needed on short notice.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Familiarity with Associated Press/Production Management System products is strongly preferred.
• Proficiency in a second language is a plus; Italian or Spanish is preferred.
