Job Description
Salpointe Catholic High School President Job DescriptionThe President is appointed by the Board of Members (the Provincial Council of the Carmelite Province of the Most Pure Heart of Mary), in consultation with the Board of Directors of Salpointe Catholic High School. He or she serves as the Board of Members' delegate and the Chief Executive Officer of the Corporation. The President is responsible for assuring that the School is true to its mission, values, charism and philosophy, and for providing leadership to the comprehensive Salpointe community. He or she is responsible to the Board of Members for the overall implementation of the institution's mission and policies in order to achieve the purpose of the Catholic philosophy and objectives of the School's educational endeavors, including the By-Laws of the Corporation and the charism of the Carmelite Order.
The President supervises the Executive Team, consisting of the Principal, Director of Finance, Director of Operations, Assistant Principal for Academics, Assistant Principal for Student Services, Director of Advancement, Director of Admission, Director of Human Resources. He or she works with the Board of Directors and the Executive Team to formulate policies and set future directions and goals for Salpointe.
Salpointe Catholic operates under the President-Principal model of leadership with clearly delineated authority and responsibilities. Working collaboratively, the President and Principal orchestrate the signature Salpointe experience for our 1340 Lancers.
The President reports to the Prior Provincial of the Carmelite Province of the Most Pure Heart of Mary. The President is responsible for ensuring that the mission of the School and the charism of the Carmelites are manifested and fulfilled daily. Additional responsibilities include donor cultivation, advancement, operations, finance, human resources, facilities, safe environment compliance, risk management, insurance, investments, governance, policies and procedures, written and verbal communications to all constituency groups, fundraising, information technology, IRS compliance, constituent databases, admissions, enrollment, financial aid, construction, capital campaigns, food service, spirit store, thrift store, custodial, maintenance and grounds, security, incident response team/threat assessment, compensation and benefits, operational and capital budgets, boards and committees.
The Principal reports directly to the President. The Principal models, communicates and implements the Catholic, Carmelite mission of Salpointe on campus. The Principal partners with the President to set the vision for the School. He or she is responsible for the day-to-day academic and student services operations of the School, ensuring the strength of the academic programming as well as the holistic student experience. Additional responsibilities include curriculum and instruction, faculty, academic departments, professional development, professional learning communities, student services, counseling, college counseling, campus ministry, health office, library, testing, learning lab, athletics, deans, discipline, student information systems, graduation, registrar, advanced placement, dual enrollment, college prep and honors courses, student activities, clubs, wellness programming, parent education, in service, Level One compliance, mandatory reports/Diocese of Tucson Office of Adult, Adolescent Protection (OCAAP) compliance, accreditation, attendance, learning lab, drug testing, service learning.
Specific Responsibilities:
A. In relation to the Board of Members and Board of Directors, the President:
Oversees and sustains the Catholic, Carmelite identity, mission and doctrinal conformity of the School.
Is responsible for implementing the School's policies and activities to ensure that the mission, philosophy and objectives of the School's educational endeavors, the by-laws of the Corporation, the Carmelite Policy Manual of the Carmelite Sponsored Secondary Schools, and the spirit of the Carmelites are clear, consistent and foundational to the operation of the School.
Establishes the vision and goals for the future of the School by developing a three to five year Strategic Plan in conjunction with the Board of Directors and Executive Team, and approved by the Board of Members.
Serves as President of the Corporation, and as a voting member of the Board of Directors and a voting member of the Academic, Advancement, Athletic, Facility, Finance, Governance, Investment, Strategic Planning and Capital Campaign Committees of the Board of Directors.
Complies with all policies and procedures as set forth in the Carmelite Policy Manual of the Carmelite Sponsored Secondary Schools.
Works with the Chairperson of the Board and with Chairpersons of standing and ad hoc committees to schedule meetings, create agendas, communicate with members, maintain a digital repository of all board and committee activity, etc.
Provides information and makes verbal and written reports to the Board of Directors and Board committees at every meeting.
Develops and presents the annual budget, including recommended employee compensation and benefits and annual tuition increases to the Finance Committee, Board of Directors and Board of Members.
Oversees the upkeep and publication of School's policy handbooks.
Is responsible, with the Governance Committee of the Board, for the ongoing formation of the Board of Directors.
Conducts an annual independent audit of the School, 401K plan and Foundation.
Attends and participates in the Carmelite Secondary Schools' Commission annual conference and monthly virtual meetings. Hosts the Commission on a rotating basis.
Serves as a voting member of the Board of Directors of the Salpointe Catholic Education Foundation, Salpointe Parent Association and Alumni Council.
Maintains collaborative relationships and regular communications with diocesan officials.
Welcomes pastors of Catholic feeder Schools and parishes to the Salpointe campus and to Baccalaureate Mass and Commencement.
Maintains and expects confidentiality at all times.
Maintains an open door policy for all constituents: communicating, listening, de-escalating, redirecting as appropriate to honor the principle of subsidiarity.
B. In relation to the Executive Team, Faculty and Staff, the President:
Attends and speaks at virtually all School/community internal and public events.
Provides leadership and direction in the religious formation programs and activities of the School.
Oversees the Catholic identity and doctrinal conformity of the School.
Selects, supervises and evaluates the members of the Executive Team as direct reports.
Meets regularly with the Executive Team as a whole and with individual team members.
Reviews, signs and/or delegates the facilitation of contracts that bind the School financially or legally.
Oversees the President's executive assistant.
Works with the Executive Team and the Finance Committee to propose and submit the operational and capital budgets for approval to the Board of Directors.
Proposes capital expenditures for approval by the Board of Directors and/or the Board of Members as stipulated in School by-laws or Carmelite Policy Manual of the Carmelite Sponsored Secondary Schools.
Oversees the finances of the School. Maintains financial oversight regarding the School's budget, investments, IPS, audits (School, 401K, SCEF), cash management, capital expenditures, financial aid, Guardian Angel Fund, Endowed Scholarship Fund, Lancer Annual Fund, planned giving, etc.
Manages and delegates risk management, legal matters, property and liability insurance, workers compensation, life and disability insurance, student accident insurance. etc.
Oversees safety and security of the School including incident response team, vulnerability and threat assessments, evacuation and lockdown procedures, etc.
Oversees employee compensation and benefits including salaries, 401K, health insurance
Oversees the management and maintenance of all facilities on campus
C. Regarding Advancement/Recruitment/Public Relations/Alumni Relations, the President:
Acts as the chief advancement officer of the School and works with the Advancement Director to cultivate and strengthen donor relationships and to appeal for financial support from alumni, parents, past parents and friends to meet the needs and goals of the School.
Serves as the School's representative to the media.
Works with the Advancement Director to implement the Development Plan as well as Marketing and Communications Plan of the School.
Participates in civic committees/organizations to bring positive public attention to the School and its mission.
Oversees all parent and alumni organizations.
Writes personal notes to every donor with the receipt of every gift. Personally calls donors who make substantial contributions.
D. Concerning Students, Prospective, Current and Past Parents, Alumni, Friends, the President:
Shares the love, joy and gratitude inherent in being a Salpointe Lancer at every opportunity.
Communicates the mission, philosophy, goals, needs and strategic plan of Salpointe Catholic to students, faculty, staff and all members of the community.
Addresses parents, alumni and guests at most Salpointe community-building events to maintain strong relationships with all constituency groups. This includes class reunions, Homecoming, Maroon and Gold Luncheon, Scholarship Reception, Veterans Day Mass and Reception, Grandparents Day, Sports Hall of Fame Induction, Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame Induction, Alumni Council meetings and events, Salpointe Parent Association meeting and events, Salpointe Catholic Education Foundation meetings and events, Step Up Day coffee, Back to School Night, Parent Teacher Conferences, Open House, Prospective Student Tailgate, Freshman Orientation, Honors Assembly, etc.
Attends and/or participates in student extracurricular events: fine and performing arts productions, athletic competitions, honor society inductions, retreats, etc. with the goal of supporting Salpointe programs, employees and students.
Cultivates individual personal relationships with parents, alumni and friends to build a loyal community of Lancer constituents.
Works closely with all parent groups to strengthen parental involvement in and support for Salpointe.
Represents the School at civic, religious and community functions such as Cornerstone Gala, Arizona Bowl, Seton Award Dinner, Catholic University Reception, etc.
