Job Description

Job Title: Director of Planned Giving
Location and work hours: Portland, Maine, with some travel, 40 hours per week, salaried
Position Overview: The Director of Planned Giving will play a crucial role in cultivating and stewarding relationships with donors who are interested in leaving a lasting legacy through planned gifts. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer of The Catholic Foundation of Maine, the Director of Planned Giving will be responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding planned giving prospects to secure bequests, charitable trusts, life insurance gifts, and other planned gifts in support of our organization's mission. A planned gift is any major gift made in lifetime or at death as part of a donor's overall financial and/or estate planning. These include gifts of equity, life insurance, real estate, personal property, or cash and may be applied to, or used to establish, an endowment or donor advised fund at The Catholic Foundation of Maine.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop and implement strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward planned giving prospects.
2. Build and maintain strong relationships with current and prospective donors, financial advisors, attorneys, and other stakeholders to promote planned giving opportunities.
3. Provide personalized gift planning guidance to donors, including information on tax benefits, estate planning, and charitable giving options.
4. Collaborate with the Catholic Foundation development team to integrate planned giving initiatives into overall fundraising efforts.
5. Manage a portfolio of planned giving prospects and donors, ensuring timely and appropriate stewardship.
6. Organize and facilitate planned giving seminars, workshops, and other events to educate donors and advisors about planned giving opportunities.
7. Maintain accurate records of planned giving activity and prepare regular scouting reports for the Chief Executive Officer and the board of trustees.
8. Stay informed about changes in tax laws, regulations, and industry best practices related to planned giving.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in a related field; advanced degree or certification in planned giving, fundraising, or a related field preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in fundraising, planned giving, estate planning, or a related field, with a proven track record of success in securing planned gifts.
• Must be an active practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and inspire donors and stakeholders.
• Strong knowledge of tax laws, estate planning techniques, and financial planning principles related to charitable giving.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
• Proficiency in donor management databases and software, as well as Microsoft Office Suite.
• Commitment to the mission and values of The Catholic Foundation of Maine.
Physical Requirements:
• The ability to travel throughout the State of Maine as needed to meet with potential donors.
• The ability to keystroke 1-2 hours per day with reasonable breaks.
• The ability to communicate verbally and in writing with prospective planned giving clients.
Work Conditions:
While this position is based in the Catholic Foundation of Maine's Portland office, some remote work and occasional travel is expected, as decided by the CEO. The position is salaried and 40 hours per week.
