Job Description
Position Overview:Mary's Land Farm, a 160-acre regenerative farm in Ellicott City, Maryland, seeks a Director of Education to lead and develop a comprehensive educational curriculum for a variety of audiences, including summer camp counselors, campers, employees, interns, and customers. This role will be responsible for the creation and delivery of different programs including raising livestock, gardening, social skills, life skills, survival, cooking, and foraging skills. The Director will oversee all educational initiatives on the farm and contribute to fostering a positive, engaging learning environment for participants of all ages.
Key Responsibilities:
-Lead year-round educational programs, including but not limited to summer camp, mini-camps, field trips, preschool "Morning at the Farm" programs, homeschool programs, adult education etc.
-Develop and implement a curriculum for the farm's summer camp program, incorporating educational farmer talks and hands-on activities.
-Manage the scheduling, invoicing, and logistics of all educational programs.
-Supervise employees to ensure effective delivery and execution of the curriculum.
-Ensure smooth operation and a positive experience for participants in all educational programs, maintaining high standards of safety and engagement.
-Oversee the resident life and day-to-day management of on-site summer staff.
Qualifications:
-Strong leadership abilities and team management skills.
-Excellent organizational and multitasking capabilities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
-Passion for working with young people and adults and creating meaningful educational experiences.
-Demonstrated ability to design and implement engaging, educational lesson plans for youth and adults.
-A Bachelor's degree in philosophy, theology, education, or a related liberal arts field.
-A solid liberal arts background with 5-10 years of professional experience in teaching, education, ministry, or similar.
-Experience or interest in survival training, scavenging, farming, or related outdoor skills.
-Physically fit and capable of handling outdoor, farm/nature-based activities.
-A background check will be required as part of the hiring process.
Compensation:
-Salary is commensurate with experience.
