Job Description

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The primary function of the Treasury & Accounting Manager is to develop and maintain accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate presentation of financial data. The Treasury & Accounting Manager is also responsible for the daily/routine treasury management and budget/variance analysis for Ave Maria University.

The Treasury & Accounting Manager must have a thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and be proficient at Great Plains accounting software and MS Office (primarily Excel). The Treasury and Accounting Manager should display strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and multitask and be a strong communicator. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities, including general ledger posting, closing processes, allocations, and financial reporting. The Treasury & Accounting Manager will work directly with the Controller and the other accounting staff. The Treasury & Accounting Manager will be honest and trustworthy, respectful, possess cultural awareness, remain flexible, and possess a sound work ethic.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Cash/Treasury Management (50%)

Daily review of cash balances and weekly cash needs planning, performs funds transfers as needed.
Act as backup for daily review and determination of Positive Pay Exceptions
Oversee daily analysis and posting of prior day's bank transactions, including the GL posting of sweep transactions, wire transfers, fees, etc. Responsible for managing/reviewing the bank reconciliation process and assisting with researching and resolving discrepancies.
Initiate drawdown of Federal Funds from DOE and notification of federal funds activity to Financial Aid and Bursar.
Monitor and communicate student ACH and wire transfer payments to Bursar and Cashier.
Monitor and communicate donor ACH, wire transfer payments, and stock transfers to Advancement.
Monitor and communicate subsidiary entity cash account activity to CFO and Controller.
Initiate weekly/monthly accounts payable ACH/wire payment activity.
Corporate Credit Card Administration through Ramp: includes processing of card changes, issuance of new cards, and trouble-shooting card usage issues as they arise.
Assist the CFO and Controller in preparation of specialized cash projection calculations and reports.
Maintain bank relationships; setup and maintenance of AMU bank accounts - oversee and manage all online banking access and activities.
AMU GENERAL LEDGER MANAGEMENT (50%)

Monthly review and posting of standardized GL activity.
Supervision of monthly General Ledger activity, including closing schedule and processes.
Oversee monthly General Ledger workpapers and reconciliations for all Balance Sheet accounts, plus any additional reports and reconciliations as requested.
Great Plain General Ledger setup and maintenance, including Chart of Account maintenance and period closing processes.
Work with AP Accountant and provides managerial support for vendor issues and accounting projects, as needed.
Works with GL Accountant and provides backup and direction for assorted bank, investment, and other GL reconciliations, and cash processing functions.
Tracking and maintenance of Fixed Assets records.
Responsible for all accounting and reconciliation of Employee Flexible Benefit Plan and Payroll posting from ADP to GP.
Responsible for ad hoc and periodic budget vs. actual reporting to other departments (Sapientia Press activity/royalties, Rent deposits/payments, Special events/conferences/symposiums, Ignatius Book Club, Student Clubs, Athletic teams, etc.).
Assists with Restricted Fund accounting.
Assists with Endowment accounting.
Assists with annual budget creation.
Assists with special accounting projects as requested by the Chief Financial Officer and Controller.
EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 5 to 10 years of progressively responsible General Ledger Accounting experience. Public accounting experience preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

Strong computer and business solutions software skills - experience with Great Plains, Workday Adaptive Planning, and Ramp a plus.

Strong analytical and problem solving skills with a high attention to detail along with a high level of accuracy.

Exceptional time management and organization skills.

Strong oral and written communication skills.

Ability to work independently, collaboratively, and under supervision.

Willingness to serve and build relationships with internal stakeholders.

Must possess strong initiative, leadership skills, organizational and project management skills, with the ability to multitask to manage a variety of projects and priorities, coordinating the actions of others, follow through on projects to timely completion, and demonstrate excellent judgment with attention to detail.

Microsoft Office experience including Word, Outlook, Excel, and Power Point.

Must support the University's Catholic mission.

PHYSICAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Requires ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; the ability to stand, walk and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10 - 20 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, type and perform data entry, visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read technical information, ability to hear in order to answer telephones and to communicate verbally, and the ability to sit for extended periods of time.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed indoors with minimal safety hazards and requires seated, standing, and movement work. Periodic travel for meetings in other on-campus buildings or at third-party offsite vendor sites required.
