Maintenance & Grounds TechnicianJob brief
St. Mary of Providence Center is a Catholic Retreat Center run by the Daughters of St. Mary of Providence. We are seeking candidates willing to promote the Catholic Identity and serve with joyful hospitality.
This position exists for the purpose of the maintenance and upkeep of St. Mary of Providence Retreat Center and Senior Living Residences
Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor / Center Director
Responsibilities:
Assists in the management of the upkeep, safety and beauty of the outdoor and indoor areas of the Center. Oversees and executes tasks designated by the Maintenance Supervisor.
Physical Requirements: The physical ability to perform duties such as, but not limited to, the following:
Heavy lifting, carrying, and reaching.
Working in adverse elements such as rain, snow and cold.
Proficient use of hand tools, paint brush etc.
Read, write and record data
Using power tools and various pieces of grounds keeping equipment such as weed wackers, hedge trimmers, push-mowers, riding mowers, chain saw, pruners, etc.
Driving of vehicles and powered equipment such as riding mowers and snow plows.
Electric, plumbing, carpentry or mechanical experience is a plus
Personal Qualities:
The ability to communicate well, problem solve, learn new skills, execute tasks promptly and efficiently
The desire to grow, develop, and mature, both spiritually and professionally.
The ability to create and maintain a Christian professional atmosphere in all internal and external relationships.

Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Minimum 3 years experience in grounds-keeping/landscaping/maintenance/carpentry/plumbing
Valid driver's license required
All Clearances and Background Checks.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Technical
Provide care and maintenance of grounds in accordance with industry best practices
Operation of lawn mowers, both riding and push, to maintain grass at acceptable levels
Landscape by planting of flowers, grass, shrubs, bushes and trees or the coordination thereof.
Application of fertilizer, pesticides and herbicides to promote healthy growth and activity of plant life and to prevent disease and pest infestation
Maintain sidewalks and roadways is a safe a passable manner that is clear of debris
Trimming of shrubs and trees for both general maintenance and appearance as well as for hazards
Rake, trim, weed wack, mulch, weed and prune grounds to promote an attractive appearance of campus
Water plants and grass as needed to promote healthy growth
Assist in shoveling snow from walkways to ensure safe passing
Assist in plowing of roadways for safe passing
Reading and understanding written instructions such as Work Orders.
Obtain certification in testing water (Walton Water will train) in order to complete this on days assigned.
Writing reports of actions taken and recommendations
Organizational
Ability to be flexible and adjust to changing priorities based on the needs of the Center
Conduct grounds-keeping operations in accordance with Center standards and industry best-practices
Provide input and ideas which promote a fresh and updated look to the Center's appearance
Planning and scheduling of periodic/seasonal maintenance of campus landscape
Assist in the care and maintenance of residential properties and the other buildings on the grounds as needed
Duties/Responsibilities:
Perform and work closely with other members and staff of the Center and assist in other duties whenever called upon as needed for the good and welfare of St. Mary of Providence
Performs other related duties as assigned
