Job Description

Seton Catholic School is a college preparatory diocesan secondary school located in the Carolina Forest area of Myrtle Beach, SC. The school serves grades sixth through twelfth. The school community is committed to providing a safe and nurturing environment in which our young men and women may achieve a well-rounded Catholic education, centered on Christ the Teacher. A Seton Catholic student is invited and encouraged to become a young adult who models his/her life after Christ and exemplifies great virtue, upstanding character, academic excellence and who understands the importance of incorporating the corporal and spiritual works of mercy into his/her daily life. Position Summary: The principal of Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School is the spiritual, moral and educational leader of all entrusted to his/her care, including faculty, staff, and students. The principal must serve as a faithful Catholic witness, in good standing with the Catholic Church, who will collaborate with diocesan leaders and educators to support, uphold and advance the mission, philosophy, and pedagogy of an authentically Catholic school rooted in Christian anthropology. The principal will act as a liaison between parents, faculty and students, to promote the Catholic faith through education, lived witness and evangelization. The principal serves as a dynamic leader, able to resolve conflict, make difficult decisions with prudence and pastoral care, all while maintaining professional boundaries, sound judgment and confidentiality. In addition, the principal will work towards increasing enrollment and hiring educators by engaging first with families and employees who are mission minded and willing to uphold, support and advance the vision and mission of Catholic education. Additionally, the principal will support educators through ongoing faith formation and professional development.

Essential Job Functions:

Collaborate with the president and faculty to strengthen the school's Catholic identity by upholding the philosophy and pedagogy of Catholic education; including but not limited to: cross curricula permeation, and providing abundant opportunities for students and staff to celebrate the faith through prayer and sacraments throughout the liturgical year.

Joyfully model the teachings of the Catholic Church through lived discipleship with Christ, including daily prayer, regular reception of the sacraments and upstanding moral character.

Support, adherence to and promotion of the magisterial teachings of the Catholic Church and policies of the Diocese of Charleston.

Create opportunities for ongoing faith formation and professional development in areas of the curriculum and instruction as it relates to the Catholic faith in addition to supporting, promoting and attending related diocesan opportunities for spiritual and professional growth.

Carefully supervise and evaluate all faculty and staff; working closely with them as a resource to assist them in all areas. (ie: classroom performance, parent communications, resolution of issues).

Collaborate with the staff to enhance the academic excellence and educational environment of the school through instructional support, curriculum, professional development and resources that support the vision and mission of Catholic education and are rooted in Christian anthropology.

Diligently and effectively communicate and collaborate with the Superintendent and Catholic Schools office staff, school president, faculty and all constituents.

An ability to identify areas that need improvement and effectively develop and implement a strategic plan.

Integrate, collaborate with and strengthen the bonds between the neighboring parish and school communities. (ie: faculty, staff, families) Be a bridge builder.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

Experienced, enthusiastic school administrator

Attract, screen, hire and retain dynamic and faithful Catholic teachers/witnesses.

Oversee the daily functions of the school and offer support as needed

Education Requirements/Position Qualifications:

Master's Degree or equivalent administrative experience

Must be a faithful, practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church able to serve as a witness to the faith to all constituents

Experience teaching in a secondary school classroom

Experience in enrollment and advancement efforts

Excellent communication skills

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements: The requirements described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Ability to operate standard office equipment, including computers, copiers, and telephones. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Outlook and Excel. Communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Valid driver's license required. This position involves standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching above shoulders. Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds to transport files or materials. Experience in SharePoint for collaboration and document management is preferred but not required.
