Job Description

Catholic Tuition Organization (CTO) Director

Reports to: Board of Directors
Revision Date: September 2024

POSITION SUMMARY/PURPOSE
The CTO Director has overall strategic and operational responsibilities of the organization's philosophy, mission, and strategy; development and implementation of policies and procedures; and management and coordination of the acquisition and disbursement of contributions in support of tuition scholarships.

PRIMARY & ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
• Governance and Administration: working in partnership with the board of directors via quarterly meetings and email communications; interacts with Iowa Catholic Conference and Iowa ACE/Advocates on legislative issues; coordinates board committee activities; and generates reports for Iowa Department of Revenue (DOR). Interacts with other School Tuition Organizations (STOs) located in Iowa.
• Financial and Database Management: maintains database records of donors and recipient families; reconciles database records to financial accounting software; develops annual budget, reviews monthly financials, develops annual report to donors; and manages investments.
• Fundraising: design and implement annual fundraising strategies; utilize board members for outreach to high dollar donors and/or prospects; develop strategies for recognition of donors; achieve annual goal based on allocated tax credits allocated by the Iowa DOR.
• Scholarship Allocation: review and recommend annual contract for third party vendor; establish parameters for awards; partner with schools to recruit families; evaluate applications for accuracy; disburse award proceeds; audit schools for handling of awards.
• Marketing: identify annual theme and develop support materials with third party vendor(s); update website; coordinate social media strategies to reach donors and recipient families.
• Staffing: develop and maintain team environment with related support personnel including diocesan staff.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILL REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor's degree and/or 2-5 years of related experience, including non-profit and program administration
• Knowledge of the legislative process and understanding of the Iowa Educational Opportunities Act
• Excellent written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to organize, establish schedules, and prioritize tasks
• Thorough knowledge of database applications including Blackbaud, WordPress and the MS Office Suite

WORKING CONDITIONS
• Hybrid office environment with 25-27 hour work week - hours are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm with the ability to work remotely 2 days per week; evening and weekends work as needed
• Travel in Central and SW Iowa may be required - depending on distance and timing of meeting, typically same day out and same day return
• Ability to lift 25 pounds, frequent sitting, standing, bending and twisting.

About the Employer

The Catholic Tuition Organization (CTO) was created in 2006 to raise funds to provide tuition assistance to qualifying students attending one of 16 Catholic schools in the Diocese of Des Moines. The criteria for receiving assistance is based on family size and income.

The Catholic Tuition Organization awards at least ninety percent of all annual revenue to eligible students.
