Music Associate & Assistant Organist
St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church
Front Royal, VA

Approximate Hourly Commitment: 15/week (year-round)

Salary: $25,000/yr. (approximately $33/hr)

Responsibilities:
- play the organ and chant for 8:30am Mass on Sundays
- play the organ and chant for either 5:00pm Saturday/5:00pm Sunday alternate weeks
- direct the St. John's Children's Choir
Thursday Rehearsals 4:30-5:30pm (3rd Thursday of September through 2nd Thursday of May)
- instruct the children in proper vocal technique, Gregorian chant, hymn-singing, and singing in parts
future plans for the children to sing on the first Sunday of each month October-May, in addition to the parish First Holy Communion Mass
- participate in the Saint John's Singers and sing with the choir for 10:30am Mass each week
- custodian of the St. John's choral library
- additional duties as assigned
- position begins June 3, 2024

Qualifications:
- preference will be given to a practicing Catholic with a strong knowledge of the Faith
- candidate should have a basic knowledge of the Roman Catholic liturgy in both the ordinary and extraordinary form
- candidate should have thorough knowledge of Gregorian chant and be able to sing with and without accompaniment
- candidate should be familiar with standard organ, choral, and chant repertoire for weddings and funerals
- candidate should be able to play choral parts (at least two voices simultaneously) at the piano to lead a simple choral rehearsal
- candidate should have excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills

- additional compensation possible through weddings at both the parish and the new chapel of Christ the King at Christendom College

Saint John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church is a thriving parish in the northwestern corner of the Diocese of Arlington in Front Royal, Virginia. The Saint John's Singers is a 45-voice SATB choir and regularly sings advanced repertoire and chant; the children's choir features 30 voices; and the Traditional Latin Mass has a vibrant schola and children's choir. Plans are underway for the building of a new parish church in the very near future.
