Job Description

We are seeking to further develop a vibrant faith formation program for elementary school-aged children and their families, helping children to take their first steps into a living relationship with Jesus Christ and His Church.

Duties and responsibilities:

Oversee faith formation programs for elementary school-aged children, helping children to experience the joy that comes from knowing the God who loves them and enabling them to interpret their experiences in the light of the Gospel.
Coordinate weekly religious education classes for children in grades K-5 and help children and their families prepare for the sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation, and Eucharist.
Coordinate with Ave Maria Catholic School teachers to assist students through sacramental preparation.
Develop fun, engaging and spiritually nourishing activities during the summer and at other times to help children to discover the joy and beauty of their Faith.
Work intensively with the families/parents of our children, re-proposing the Gospel to them and helping them to be the first and best catechists of their children. Find ways to help the family as a whole to experience the power of the Gospel and the help that comes from belonging to the Church community.
Recruit, train and support catechists and other volunteers through training, retreats, materials and feedback, helping them to grow in their own faith and experience the joy of sharing the gift that is our life in Christ. Maintain clear and constant communication with volunteers, including regarding schedules, safe environment training, etc.
Work together collaboratively with the other members of the faith formation team, pursuing a shared vision of the life that God desires to share with us and the joy of the Gospel.
Other duties as assigned, including but not limited to:
Collaborate and coordinate with other parish and diocesan employees
Maintain accurate records
Foster respect and the dignity of all, maintaining confidentiality and avoiding gossip or slander.

Requirements:

Zeal for the Gospel of Jesus Christ and love for His Church, particularly for the young
Bachelor's degree in religious education or Catholic theology
Experience teaching and lesson-planning in a Catholic setting
Effective public speaking
Strong communication and organizational skills
Solid commitment to prayer, discipleship and teamwork, demonstrated by frequent reception of the sacraments, adherence to Church teaching, participation in parish life and openness to working with others

FLSA: Non-Exempt Full time, 30-40 hrs/week, with benefits
Hourly: $20.00-$22.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications
Sunday through Thursday with frequent evenings

Physical requirements:
Frequent public speaking, walking, standing, sitting, bending, operating standard office equipment, working with others, and exposure to the noise of happy children.

They are expected to conduct themselves according to the teaching, goals and mission of the Church, modeling Christian virtues in every aspect of their lives. Every employee must undergo a background check and training regarding diocesan standards.
