Job Description

Director of Youth Ministry and Religious Education for Grades 7-12

The Director of Youth Ministry and Religious Education is responsible for sacramental preparation and youth ministry for young people and their families in grades 7-12. The Director supervises support staff and a large team of adult volunteers and Catechists and is under the supervision of the Pastor. This is a full-time, salaried position with a varied schedule that includes evenings and weekends. Some work from home is available when approved by the Pastor. Moderate travel is required. This position comes with benefits and PTO.

Qualifications
1. Bachelor's or Master's Degree in youth ministry, religious education, catechetics, theology or a related degree preferred
2. Minimum of three years' experience in youth ministry
3. Experience in supervising and developing staff is a plus
4. Two years' experience in catechizing in a parish faith formation program or Catholic school desired
5. Experience with evangelization and disciple-making
6. Ability to work independently, collaboratively, and to recruit, train, and develop a team
7. Proficient in Microsoft Office Business Suite
8. Good computer literacy and database management
9. Strong organizational and time management skills
10. Ability to facilitate meetings and group work processes
11. Practicing Catholic in good standing with demonstrated fidelity to the Magisterium of the Roman Catholic Church
12. Fully child protection compliant for working with youth in the Diocese of Arlington or willingness to obtain compliance

Job Summary

The position establishes a vision, coordinates, and supervises a team of volunteers and support staff in ministry to and with young people in grades seven through twelve. The Director and team prepare middle school youth for reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation by coordinating a two- year faith formation program. The position is also responsible for oversight of sacramental preparation for older teens who are receiving Baptism, Holy Eucharist, or Confirmation in High School. The Director creates, develops, and implements a comprehensive youth ministry that will enhance the faith formation of youth and their families beyond reception of Confirmation.

This position is under the supervision of the Pastor and works collaboratively with clergy, the Director of Religious Education for K-6 and other parish staff.

Responsibilities
1. Develop and coordinate a comprehensive youth ministry in the spirit of Renewing the Vision, for youth in grades 7-12.
2. Communicate regularly and effectively with parents, seeking input and implementing appropriate opportunities that support parents as the primary educators of their children and that build up the faith formation of the whole family.
3. Work with the Diocesan Office to implement the vision for youth ministry as set forth by the Diocese of Arlington. This includes regular and frequent collaboration with Diocesan staff, and other Directors of Youth Ministry as well as participation in Diocesan provided training and formation.
4. Coordinate the recruitment, training, support, and evaluation of volunteers and Catechists.
5. Provide appropriate training and opportunities for adults and young people in leadership positions.
6. Foster the involvement of young people in the life of the parish, including living the liturgical life, service opportunities and parish activities.
7. Develop, schedule, and facilitate Confirmation retreats, religious education classes, service opportunities, work camps, social outings, and other offerings.
8. Coordinate with the Diocese Office of Faith Formation on all policies and requirements for religious education classes for youth in grades 7-12
9. Coordinate with the Bishop's staff, the Director of Music, clergy, and others to facility the Confirmation rehearsal and Confirmation Liturgy
10. Communicate regularly with RCIA leadership and work together to prepare any young people receiving sacraments at the Easter Vigil.
11. Collaborate with parish ministries in area of overlap for the betterment of the parish community to include presence and assistance with the Labor Day Picnic, Vacation Bible School, Living Stations of the Cross, Kid's Stuff Sale, and other Parish Events.
