POSITION TITLE: Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College of Arts, Sciences, and Business
DEPARTMENT: Academic Affairs
POSITION STATUS: Full Time, 12-Month
POSITION REPORTS TO: President

JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the President, the Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA) and Dean of the College of Arts, Sciences and Business (CASB) is the chief academic officer responsible for the oversight of the university's academic programming, academic support services, academic-wide policies and processes, and management of the College of Arts, Sciences and Business. This position has responsibility to maintain academic excellence, to promote teaching excellence and scholarship among the faculty, and to foster effective communication among and between administration and faculty.

This position is responsible for the leadership and performance of the College of Arts, Sciences and Business, managing the ongoing operational, financial, and personnel activities of the college, and leading the faculty of the college in all academic matters, including continued development of goals, policies, strategy and program planning and evaluation, outreach, and partnerships. This position supervises faculty and staff of the Office of Academic Affairs and College of Arts, Sciences, and Business.

Working with the other members of the President's Cabinet, this administrator helps articulate and implement the university's strategic plan as well as develop and manage the strategic plans for the College of Arts, Sciences and Business, and Academic Affairs. This administrator may provide regular reports to the Board of Trustees and its committees as requested and will serve as administrative liaison to the Academic Affairs Committee of the Board.

Major Responsibilities/Activities

The role of this position includes but is not limited to the following responsibilities:

Shares the responsibility for articulating the Catholic, Franciscan values to the faculty, staff, and University constituents.

Recommends strategies to the President and Cabinet to promote academic excellence, support institutional values, and fulfill the overall University mission and vision.

Collaborates with Human Resources, Development, Enrollment Management, Marketing and Alumni Departments to seek external funding, recruit and retain high quality faculty and students, promote the college, and develop strategies to engage alumni.

Collaborates with the other administrators to examine and resolve broad academic organizational issues.

Coordinates Academic Affairs overall including, but not limited to accreditation, academic portfolio assessment and management, finances, staffing, policies, and shared governance. The VPAA has overall responsibility to assure the implementation of quality academic programs and oversees the development, revision, and implementation of Academic Affairs academic policies.

Works closely with the Academic Affairs Committee of the Board and supports the effective function of the Academic Affairs Committee of the Board by assisting the chair to prepare agendas and determine priorities for committee action.

Directs the Colleges of Arts, Sciences and Business and facilitates achievement of the college mission and strategic objectives and articulates a college vision to the University community and external constituencies.

Serves as both CASB's and Academic Affairs' overall principal spokesperson, articulating their shared vision, qualities and distinctiveness to the university community and external constituencies (e.g., faculty, students, advisory board members, administrative departments, alumni, and civic and business leaders). Is involved in the local community and serve as a resource to the local community and oversees Advisory Councils that provide for regular connections between community organizations and faculty.

Expands grant opportunities in partnership with the grant's office and faculty, and assists as needed with proposal development, implementation, evaluation and reporting.

Responsibility to the President

Makes recommendations to the President regarding all faculty matters.

Can act on behalf of the President in their absence.

Meets regularly with the President to keep them appraised of current issues and developments.

Prepares administrative evaluative reports annually.

Participates in activities on and off campus as representative of the University.
