Job Description

CARITAS For Children is searching for Deacons who want the opportunity to grow their own mini-Catholic Apostolate right from their own Diocese.

The main function of a Director of Ministry and Development (DMD) is to increase awareness of the CARITAS Mission and to find sponsor families for desperate children, religious sisters, clergy, and seminarians from some of the poorest countries in the world. Each Deacon will have his own poor territory to pray for and help support in many ways from his home base. He may decide to personally travel to the mission territory, grow many relationships, fundraise for special projects, lead mission trips, or maybe even start a parish twinning relationship. The opportunities for ministry are truly vast and it mostly depends on the creativity, talents, and development success of each DMD.

The Deacons who become DMD's for CARITAS should have a natural and heartfelt love for the poor, be skilled in human communication, and have a desire to make a global impact. An excellent candidate for this position will be an enthusiastic preacher, excellent at networking, and preferably have had some mission trip / missionary experience. To be a successful DMD, a Deacon will need to create a positive vision of what is possible, evangelize and share that vision, conduct himself with a can-do attitude and be a go-getter. The opportunities are endless for spreading the Gospel and making tangible differences, but a lot will depend on the funding and development that a DMD generates via increasing sponsorships, donations, grants, and community involvement.

With 25 Years of experience as a 501c3 nonprofit Lay Catholic Apostolate, CARITAS will take care of the DMD's backroom office, software, technology, support personnel, and services needed for each deacon to succeed. A lot of the heavy lifting (global operations, program development, networking, and software organization) is already prepared so that a DMD can mostly focus on evangelization instead of developing the business operations. Additionally, each Deacon will be given guidance and training to help them succeed in growing their mini apostolates.

It is important to mention that being a DMD is not a job but a ministry. Even though each deacon will be compensated for his preaching efforts, and exponentially compensated as his apostolate grows, this should not be a deacon's main source of income. What is being offered here is a unique opportunity to evangelize, serve the poor, and use your talents to bring people together to make a global impact in your own Catholic apostolate.

If you desire a bigger role, please look to see if any one of the following are of interest:

1. Deacon and Lay-Apostolate Development Assistant
2. International Mission Trips with Catholic University Based Programs
3. Ministry and Evangelization
4. Project Management
5. Foundation and High-Income/High-Net Worth Fundraising
6. Finance and Operations
7. TED-Talk Development and Speaking
8. DBMS Management

About the Employer

Since 1998, CARITAS for Children has built relationships between children from poor countries and adults with the desire and potential to sponsor them. Specifically, a sponsor provides financial assistance for a life-changing Catholic education, daily meals, clothing, and medical care of an orphaned or disadvantaged child. At the same time, the sponsor gains a global perspective, a new member to their family, and a unique spiritual insight into the enriching effects of true charity.
