Job Description

Position Summary:
The Director of High School Youth Ministry provides coordination for the parish's implementation of comprehensive youth ministry efforts to young people from 7th through 12th grades and young adults (YA). This includes managing the HS ministry operations and YA outreach.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

• Attend regular staff meetings
• Participate in staff planning
• Communicate to staff about youth & young adult ministry activities
• Seek staff input in planning youth & young adult ministry activities
• Be a resource person to parish staff on issues related to youth and young adults and their ministry needs
• Serve as a liaison with the pastor, parish staff and parish councils
• Participate in continuing education opportunities
• Developing and implementing a systematic and intentional plan for adolescent catechesis that utilizes a creative variety of formats, settings, and timeframes
• Providing resources for effective programming
• Providing appropriate training for the adults and young people in leadership positions
• Provide appropriate services and programs for parents of youth
• Serving as liaison with the diocesan Office of Youth, Young Adult, and Campus Ministry and their programs, services, and resources
• Manage the registration process for all high school and young adult activities, including annual registrations, retreats, service activities, mission trips, conferences
• Manage the safe environment compliance of HS ministry volunteers
• Coordinating the outreach to and evangelization of youth and young adults
• Coordinating the implementation of retreats for high school youth
• Coordinating youth and volunteer participation in conferences and mission trips
• Create and maintain budget for HS and Young Adult ministry; purchase supplies
• Coordinating relational ministry efforts with adult volunteers, for youth
• Marketing and communication of HS & YA ministry activities via social media, YM website, text messages

Responsibilities shared with the Director of Middle School Youth Ministry:
• Collaborate with staff, volunteers and councils to support the ongoing, long-term strategic visioning of youth ministry
• As a youth ministry team, review the vision and programming opportunities regularly to address the changing needs of youth and their families in accord with the parish mission and vision
• Fostering the involvement of youth in the life of the parish, including participation in parish ministries and events
• Co-coordinating the recruitment, training, and supporting of youth ministry volunteers

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree in theology, pastoral ministry or a related field, knowledge of Catholic teaching, catechesis and documents on youth ministry

Language skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills; proficiency in composing reports, correspondence and letters and in publishing e-newsletters and flyers in English, ability to develop and facilitate youth programs; ability to read and understand church documents and guidelines.

Computational Skills: Ability to read, prepare, and manage budgets for major events and programs; prepare annual budget for youth ministry.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve problems, make sound decisions, and deal with a variety of concrete variables.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in Word, Excel, and Microsoft Office

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Be a cleared adult according to the Diocese of Dallas' Safe Environment policies.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to transport materials and equipment (up to 25 pounds) to and from various locations. The employee is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, use hands in repetitive motion tasks, handle objects, talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Physical Environment: The employee will work in an office with a door. The noise level is usually quiet. The space is wheelchair accessible. The employee will also work at off-site locations for various ministry events.

Working Conditions: The employee must schedule office time in order to complete tasks and meet with staff and parishioners. The employee must be able to work cooperatively with other members of the staff and with youth leaders and volunteers. The employee must be able to set priorities, work toward goals and deadlines, and manage multiple priorities.

Other Requirements: The employee must be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing with the Church. The employee must have knowledge of Church structure and culture. The employee must have knowledge of current youth culture and current trends and issues within those cultures. Requires the ability to maintain confidentiality, develop curriculum and maintain documentation.
