Job Description

The Chef oversees and executes all meal preparation for the clerics who reside at the AMS Pastoral Center and their guests. The position is responsible for menu planning, grocery shopping, table setting, food preparation and service, and clean-up for lunch and dinner Monday through Friday. When the AMS hosts large events (more than twelve persons), the Chef will have the option to hire additional temporary staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Develops menus for nutritious, lo-fat meals and purchases the food needed for the household from the grocery store or through vendors.

2. Prepares high quality lunches and dinners Monday through Friday. Lunch is generally served around 12:30 p.m. (after Mass); lunch is generally soup and a salad. Dinner is served at 6:00 p.m. While the meals are served in courses, each course is served family style.

3. Keeps the kitchen and dining room impeccably clean and organized.

4. Stores and properly labels ingredients and leftovers.

5. Acts as caterer for special events of up to eighty persons, including budget preparation and working with the Archbishop on menu planning. As determined, these events are either buffet or plated.

6. Oversees the maintenance of all kitchen equipment.

7. Keeps accurate records and receipts of food purchases within the established budget.

8. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education:
• Certificate from a culinary school preferred.

Experience:
• 1 year professional cooking.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to manage a fully functioning kitchen.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Flexibility in accommodating last-minute guests.
• Valid driver's license and transportation for grocery shopping.
• Familiarity with American, Italian, and French cooking styles.
