Job Description

In accordance with the standards of House of Mercy and in union with the Magisterium of the Catholic Church practices and policies, the Volunteer Manager plays an important role at House of Mercy. The Volunteer Manager is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all aspects of the volunteer program. This includes managing systems for volunteer scheduling, ensuring effective communication, and handling logistics for special events and one-time volunteer groups. The Volunteer Manager will work closely with staff and volunteers to support our mission and ensure all activities are carried out with professionalism, compassion, and efficiency.

This role requires someone who is flexible, proactive, and collaborative - a key team member who will help maintain a positive, productive environment while delivering on our community-focused mission.

Key Responsibilities:

VOLUNTEER PROGRAM MANAGEMENT
Recruit and advertise for new volunteers and service groups
Review applications, run background checks, and coordinate onboarding
Manage volunteer scheduling systems and coordinate logistics for one-time service groups and special events
Onboard and train volunteers on House of Mercy's mission, values, and responsibilities
Organize volunteer appreciation efforts (both annual and ongoing)

COMMUNICATION & ENGAGEMENT
Serve as the point of contact for all volunteer-related communication
Conduct regular updates, check-ins, and training sessions
Collaborate with the Marketing Coordinator to maintain updated volunteer materials and website content
Resolve conflicts and maintain a welcoming, respectful environment for all

PROGRAM IMPROVEMENT & LEADERSHIP
Continuously assess the volunteer program and implement improvements
Conduct stay interviews to understand volunteer motivations and improve retention, as well as exit interviews to gather feedback and identify areas for program improvement
Manage the intern program, including reviewing applications, interviewing, and onboarding
Assist in planning House of Mercy community events
Maintain open communication with the Human Resources Manager and leadership staff and coordinate with other team members

ADDITIONAL EXPECTATIONS
Attend staff meetings and assist other coordinators as needed
Be available for occasional evening and weekend volunteer events
Uphold House of Mercy's policies, values, and professional standards
Other duties as assigned

What We're Looking For:
Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
Well-developed organizational and time management skills - able to juggle schedules, details, and deadlines
A passion for community service, people development, and inclusion
A strong personal faith and comfort working in a Catholic ministry environment; Catholic background preferred
Comfort with public speaking, email communication, and private discussions
Conflict resolution experience and the ability to manage conflict well
Flexibility and willingness to grow
College graduate or equivalent preferred
Be in good physical health, and able to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.)
Competency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Email
Management and volunteer experience preferred
Fluency in Spanish is a bonus
