Job Description

The Coordinator of Religious Education (CRE) is responsible for designing, implementing, and administering the parish religious education program for children in grades K-8, including preparation for the Sacraments of Reconciliation, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation. The CRE works in collaboration with the pastor, parish staff, catechists, parents, and volunteers to foster the faith formation and spiritual growth of children in accordance with the teachings of the Catholic Church.

Key Responsibilities:
Program Leadership & Administration

-Develop, implement, and oversee the parish religious education program for grades K-8.
-Ensure the curriculum aligns with diocesan guidelines and Church teaching.
-Coordinate the schedule of classes, sacramental preparation sessions, retreats, and liturgical celebrations.
-Recruit, train, and support volunteer catechists and aides.
-Provide ongoing formation and resources for catechists.
-Maintain accurate student enrollment, attendance, and sacramental records within the current ParishSoft database..

Sacramental Preparation
-Direct sacramental preparation programs for First Reconciliation, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation.
-Collaborate with parents to ensure their active role in their child's faith formation.
-Organize parent meetings, workshops, and retreats related to sacramental preparation.
-Work with the pastor and parish staff to plan liturgies and celebrations of the sacraments.

Pastoral & Catechetical Leadership
-Foster an environment where faith is nurtured and children experience a living encounter with Christ.
-Model and promote Catholic values and prayer in all aspects of the program.
-Provide opportunities for students and families to participate in parish life and service.
-Be available to families for questions, guidance, and support in the faith journey of their children.

Administrative Duties
-Prepare and manage the program budget.
-Communicate regularly with parents, catechists, and the parish community.
-Ensure compliance with diocesan safe environment policies.
-Participate in diocesan meetings, workshops, and continuing education as required.

Qualifications:
-Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church.
-Bachelor's degree in Theology, Religious Education, or related field (Master's preferred).
-Certification as a catechetical leader (or willingness to work toward certification).
-Experience in parish religious education, catechesis, or teaching.
-Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
-Ability to work collaboratively with clergy, staff, volunteers, and families.
