PART-TIME AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE (ASL) TEACHER

Elizabeth Seton High School (ESHS) is a Catholic, secondary, college preparatory school for young women founded in 1959 by the Daughters of Charity. Located in Prince George's County, a suburb of Washington, DC, the school attracts students from surrounding counties and the District of Columbia. Job Summary

We are seeking a passionate and qualified part-time ASL teacher to join our faculty. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of ASL and Deaf culture, as well as experience in teaching ASL at the high school level. The part-time ASL teacher will be responsible for developing engaging curriculum, fostering a supportive learning environment, and effectively instructing students in ASL proficiency

Responsibilities

Create a classroom culture of high achievement and student ownership of learning that helps foster students' intellectual, social, and emotional development
Deliver effective ASL instruction using a variety of teaching methods, incorporating multimedia resources and hands-on activities to engage students of diverse learning styles
Implement best practices in data-driven instruction, including inquiry and hands-on activities, demonstrations, lectures, and discussions
Communicate regularly with families to identify students' talents, interests, and needs and update families regarding students' achievements and progress
Collaborate with staff and the Elizabeth Seton High School community in staff meetings, regular analysis sessions, and professional learning designed to enhance students' learning experience and increase student achievement
Act as a mentor and promote teamwork among students
Identify the special needs of students and seek additional support, as needed
Maintain and submit necessary records, progress reports, and grade reports
Adhere to the professional and ethical standards as outlined in the ESHS Employee Handbook

Required Skills and Abilities:

Stay updated on best practices in ASL instruction, Deaf culture, and educational technology
Practical technology skills, including learning management systems (Blackbaud and Google Classroom)
A desire to teach in a Catholic School committed to Catholic education and the formation of young women in Christian character
Exemplary character and demonstrated services to others
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Creativity and an ability to collaborate with colleagues
Willingness and ability to contribute to an atmosphere and environment conducive to our girls' academic, spiritual, social, and emotional development

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Education, ASL, Deaf Studies, or related field (Master's degree preferred)
State teaching certification or licensure in ASL education
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and a strong understanding of Deaf culture
Previous experience teaching ASL at the high school level is preferred.
Ongoing maintenance of all requirements regarding professional courses and in-services required
