Job Description

JOB TITLE: Design Assistant

Part Time (On-site, offsite, or hybrid)

Job Summary:

The Design Assistant is at the service of the Gospel, assisting the Design Manager with designs needed by Pauline Books & Media/Daughters of St. Paul. The Design Assistant will be especially responsible for visual assets for Marketing and PBM Book Centers. Working closely with the Marketing team, and in communication with the Design Manager, the Design Assistant advocates for and creates visual marketing assets for print, social media, e-newsletter, our Book Centers, and our online stores. The Design Assistant is also cross-trained and able to assist in other essential responsibilities of the Design Team.

Reports to: Design Manager

Responsibilities:

1. Collaborates with the Marketing team in creating marketing assets according to criteria identified in the Creative Development and Visual Development meetings of each project.

2. Submits concepts for review to the marketing team, Design manager, as well as the publisher and members of the editorial team, when appropriate.

3. Develops and finalizes mock-ups of books/merchandise/visuals for projects to be used in pre-sales or other marketing initiatives: Amazon, PBM webstore, social media, and newsletters, visuals for press releases, and Book Center assets and promotional materials.

4. Completes projects on deadline.

5. Supports marketing department with strategically branded design of promotional materials (stickers, bookmarks, etc.), merch, etc.

6. Attends weekly marketing meetings, and as well as Creative and Visual Development Meetings, Cover Approval Meetings, and other publishing house meetings as necessary.

7. Consults on cover design and visual packaging of projects as needed.

8. Assists the Design Manager with any other needs or responsibilities of the Design Team, as necessary.

9. Cross-trains to learn other essential duties of the Design Team. Assists in carrying these out when necessary.

A strong commitment and desire to promote Gospel values.

Experienced in creation of designs for print and web

Professional and personable communication skills, both in verbal and written form.

Proficiency with Adobe CC and Microsoft Office.

Knowledge of motion graphics creation a plus

Creative and willing to suggest out-of-the-box ideas.

Strong knowledge of marketing design and brand management.

Awareness of social media and design trends and ability to integrate this knowledge in designs.

Ability to work well on a team, give and receive constructive feedback, and advocate for their area of expertise.

If off-site, an ability to attend in-person meetings in Boston as needed (2-4 times a year).
