Publicist

Full Time; Boston, MA (On-Site preferred, Off-Site or Hybrid may be considered)

Job Summary:

The role of the Publicist at Pauline Books and Media (PBM) is to generate favorable public interest and awareness around PBM book titles, audio/visual productions, and related projects or initiatives (Projects) of Pauline Books & Media in collaboration with the Marketing team.

It is the Publicist's responsibility to build and manage relationships with major media outlets and Catholic influencers, working closely with PBM authors and other collaborators to increase sales, and to initiate and discover content marketing and outreach opportunities.

The Publicist is an active and collaborative member of the Marketing Team, assisting in the development of Marketing strategies, including media plans, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), timelines, audience targeting, and messaging for individual projects and overall brand awareness.

The Publicist reports to the Manager of Marketing.
The Publicist also works closely with the Editorial, Design, Sales, and Webstore teams.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborates with PBM sales and marketing teams to understand products and communication needs.
• Gathers the materials necessary to understand the projects and competition in the area such as literature or previous marketing campaigns; analyzes these materials to determine the most effective communications technique.
• Based on assessment, assists in developing communication campaigns which may include social and online media, print media, direct mail and other multimedia highlighting authors, illustrators, and influencers' or reviewers' promotion of PBM or FSP projects.
• Works with other members of the Marketing Team to create and maintain the annual marketing plan.
• Actively seek out, pitch, and manage media opportunities for PBM authors and other collaborators, fostering contacts with journalists, media outlets, reviewers, etc., with the goal of generating publicity for our Projects.
• Arrange for Project coverage in major and appropriately niche media outlets, including setting up audio or video interviews, in-person events, article and podcast coverage.
• Develop gift packages for influencers, collaborators, and authors when appropriate to build excitement and develop relationships.
• Attend relevant publishing house meetings related to the development of the Projects and marketing strategies, becoming aware of and conducting research relevant to the Projects, their content, their intent(s), their audience(s), and unique marketing opportunities.
• Attend trade shows and events to staff PBM booths, especially when needed for author support.
• Maintain a database of outreach and Project coverage efforts and contacts.
• Evaluate success of campaigns when completed.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• A strong commitment and desire to promote Gospel values, and a deep familiarity with and ability to articulate the Catholic faith.
• Excellent professional and personable verbal and written communication skills.
• Creative and willing to suggest out-of-the-box ideas.
• Exceptional organizational and research skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office 365 or related software as well as social media and communication tools. Ability to learn new technical skills and software.
• Ability to work well on a team and contribute based on their area of expertise.
• Design experience and capabilities are not required, but a plus.
• If off-site, an ability to attend in-person meetings in Boston quarterly.

Education and Experience:
• Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Journalism, Advertising, Communications, or related field.
• Three to five years of related PR experience in publicity, writing press releases, pitching media, achieving great story coverage.

Physical Requirements:
• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
• Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
